Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2012

Academic Achievement Grant to Schools and Districts Demonstrating Progress in Closing the Achievement Gap for Limited English Proficient (LEP) Students, Phase II
Fund Code: 316-B

Purpose: The purpose of the second phase of this federal grant program is to recognize Title I schools that have advanced the performance of limited English proficient (LEP) students, as measured by MCAS, at a greater rate than the statewide average for all LEP students.
Priority: The priority of this grant is to allow districts that participated in the FY 2010 Academic Achievement Grant to Schools and Districts Demonstrating Progress in Closing the Achievement Gap for Limited English Proficient (LEP) Students, Phase I to:
  • respond to specific review team recommendations generated as a result of Phase I by further deepening or enhancing delivery of services and instruction to second language learners; and/or
  • implement a district strategy and develop materials for in-district or regional dissemination of effective school and district practices as verified by the review conducted during Phase I; and/or
  • provide staff with train-the-trainer training in the use of new curriculum standards and assessment for ELLs sponsored or recommended by the DESE.
Eligibility: Only districts that participated in the FY 2010 Academic Achievement Grant to Schools and Districts Demonstrating Progress in Closing the Achievement Gap for Limited English Proficient (LEP) Students, Phase I are eligible to apply on behalf of Title I schools in the district. A list of eligible schools is available in the Additional Information Section of this RFP.
Funding: Up to $10,000 is available for each eligible school.

A total of $287,000 is available for this Phase II grant opportunity
Fund Use: All expenditures must be consistent with categories listed in the Priority section above and may include stipends, consultant fees, travel for PD, materials purchases, and other directly related costs.
