|Purpose: || The purpose of this competitive grant program is to support Collaborative Partnerships for Vocational Technical Education (VTE) Framework Revisions with the goal of updating all existing VTE frameworks used in school districts with Chapter 74 programs. Up to eleven grants will be awarded to support teams of career and technical education professionals who will address thirty-seven Vocational Technical Education Frameworks for: 1) Revisions to the VTE frameworks for currency and to conform to the department approved template. Teams will also consider standards required for appropriate industry credentials attainable by students. 2) Creation of a crosswalk between the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science and Technology/Engineering and the Technical Strand of the Vocational Technical Education Frameworks. |
|Priorities: ||Each grant will support the following professionals:
Technical team members will participate in the project kick-off event to be held in May, 2012.
A team of up to seven highly qualified technical teachers from several schools (if applicable) currently using the Vocational Technical Framework to work on revisions. Teams should reflect the geographical diversity of the commonwealth and ideally include representatives of both vocational technical and comprehensive high schools.
An advisory committee comprised of representatives from: industry, post-secondary education, and registered apprenticeship (if applicable) that will meet with the technical teacher revision team a minimum of two times (mid-way through the revision process and to review the final draft).
A team of academic teachers, one English Language Arts, one Mathematics, and one Science and Technology/Engineering, to work with the team of technical teachers to create a crosswalk between the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Technology/Engineering and the Technical Strand of the Vocational Technical Education Frameworks.
Partnerships comprised of at least three school districts (if applicable) with at least one current secondary-level Chapter 74-approved vocational technical education programs based on a Vocational Technical Education Frameworks (VTEF) within the cluster group. One school district in the partnership must be designated as the lead agency. The lead agency must designate an individual to be the partnership administrator. |
A maximum of eleven partnerships will be awarded one grant of up to $35,000 for each VTEF within the occupational cluster group. Funding is from the federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act (Perkins IV). |
|Fund Use: ||
Funds must be used in accordance with this funding opportunity, the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 P.L. 109-270 and the Massachusetts Perkins IV Manual. Funds may be requested for stipends, indirect costs, costs of substitutes, and travel. Note: Grantees do not need to include costs for facilitation since facilitation will be provided by the Department to ensure consistency. |
