Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2012

Vocational Technical Education Six Frameworks

Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to support the teams that produced draft frameworks for Culinary Arts, Design and Visual Communications, Early Education and Care, Environmental Science and Technology, Graphic Communications, and Health Assisting in 2010 with the goal of finalizing the drafts.
Priorities: Each grant will support the following activities:
  1. Participation of the revision team administrators with the Frameworks Revision Team of the Office of Career/Vocational Education and its project consultant to finalize a draft template for future frameworks revisions.

  2. Participation of a lead member of each revision team in consultant-led facilitator training session.

  3. Participation of lead members in the Frameworks Revision Project kick-off session, to be held in May, 2012, as facilitators of break-out sessions.

  4. Reconvening of the 2010 revision teams to complete work on revisions to the Technical Strand following the Department approved template.

  5. Reconvening the team of technical teachers to work with academic teachers (one English Language Arts, one Mathematics, and one Science and Technology/Engineering) to complete the crosswalk between the most current Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science, and Technology/Engineering and the Technical Strand of the Vocational Technical Education Frameworks.

Eligibility: Partnerships awarded grants to revise the Culinary Arts, Design and Visual Communications, Early Education and Care, Environmental Science and Technology, Graphic Communications, and Health Assisting Frameworks in 2010. One school district in the partnership must be designated as the lead agency. The lead agency must designate an individual to be the partnership administrator.
Funding: A maximum of six (6) partnerships will be awarded one (1) grant of up to $20,000 for teamwork on the completion of one (1) Vocational Technical Education Frameworks (VTEF). Funding is from the federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act (Perkins IV).
Fund Use: Funds must be used in accordance with this funding opportunity and the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 P.L. 109-270 and the Massachusetts Perkins IV Manual. Funds may be requested for stipends, indirect costs, costs of substitutes, and travel. Note: Partnerships do not need to include costs for facilitation since facilitation will be provided by the Department to ensure consistency.
