Purpose: $13.7 million in federal funding to support new school redesign plans intended to accelerate school improvement and close achievement gaps among Massachusetts students.

Result of Funding: Eighty-six schools were eligible to apply for the School Redesign Grants, including two Level 4 schools that were previously eligible but not funded. A total of ten schools in seven districts submitted applications. Following a comprehensive review process that included face-to-face interviews with district and school officials and an assessment of their capacity to do the work necessary to improve student achievement over the next three years, the Department selected nine schools for funding.
