Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2013

Continuing Supplementary Support to Specific Underperforming School Districts: Level 4 District Accelerated Improvement Planning and Implementation
Fund Code: 220-M / 323M

Purpose: The purpose of this state and federally-funded grant program is to provide continuing supplementary support to large urban districts engaged in Level 4 District Accelerated Improvement Planning, which focuses on building leadership capacity at the district and school level, enhancing data systems used to inform decision-making, and supporting the district's literacy initiative.

This grant is intended to support work that touches all six District Standards:
  • Leadership and Governance
  • Curriculum and Instruction
  • Assessment
  • Human Resources and Professional Development
  • Student Support
  • Financial and Asset Management
Priorities: These funds are intended to subsidize the work of a District Plan Management Team designated by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) to support the district in implementing its Accelerated Improvement Plan. This will include covering costs associated with the work of the team in the likelihood it is not covered by existing funds.
Eligibility: Only Holyoke and New Bedford Public Schools are eligible at this time.
Funding: Holyoke: $200,000 (state funds only)
New Bedford: $182,000 (combined state and federal funds)
Fund Use: Funds can be used for activities and initiatives consistent with ESE's agreements with the districts regarding the work of their Plan Management Team.
Project Duration: 7/1/2012-6/30/2013 and/or 7/1/2012-6/30/12 dependent on fund source (see budget workbook for exact project period)
