Grants and Other Financial Assistance Programs: FY2013

Teen-Pregnancy Prevention: Partners for Youth Success
Fund Code: 716

Purpose: The Teen-Pregnancy Prevention: Partners for Youth Success grant is intended to assist the Springfield Afterschool Program with:
  • Full and complete implementation of the Making Proud Choices curriculum with the added adult preparation lessons (It PaYS curriculum) in programs operating in middle schools
  • Evaluation activities related to program implementation and outcomes
  • Building sustainability of the program beyond the funding period
Priorities: The priority of this grant is to support the continued work of Springfield following its participation in the initial Teen-Pregnancy Prevention: Partners for Youth Success grant and piloting project.

In applying for these funds, Springfield Afterschool Program ensures that:
  • All project personnel (including teachers and youth leaders) will attend all designated required trainings sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and/or the Department of Public Health (schedule of trainings is attached)
  • There will be full participation and compliance with evaluation activities.
Eligibility: The Department will make an award to Springfield based on its participation in the initial Teen-Pregnancy Prevention: Partners for Youth Success grants and its piloting of selected evidence-based curricula during the initial funding period (January 2012 - August 2012) and federal requirements that teen pregnancy prevention efforts focus on middle school youth in Springfield.
Funding: A grant award of up to $100,000 is available for the Springfield Afterschool program.

The Department reserves the right to alter the award. The Springfield Afterschool program will receive funding in FY2013 if it meets all eligibility requirements and program obligations.
Fund Use: Funds can be used to support training time for staff (e.g., stipends or travel) to attend workshops, meeting costs to plan and implement programs, purchase of science-based curricula, and staff training on these curricula. Funds can be used to hire additional personnel in order to implement fully and expand the program but they may not be used to supplant current salaries.
