Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Partners for Youth Success Implementation
Fund Code: 716

Purpose: The Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Partners for Youth Success Implementation grant is intended to assist districts with:
  • Full and complete implementation of the Making Proud Choices curriculum with the added adult preparation lessons (It PaYs curriculum) in middle schools
  • Evaluation activities related to program implementation and outcomes
  • Building sustainability of the program beyond the funding period
Priorities: The priority of this grant is to provide funds to districts with the lowest performing schools and the highest teen birth rates in order to implement the It PaYs curriculum in their district at the middle school level.

In applying for these funds districts ensure that:
  • The curriculum has been approved for implementation during the current school year (See below for information on the curriculum and obtaining copy for review)
  • The curriculum will be implemented completely and with fidelity
  • All project personnel (including teachers and project coordinators) will attend all designated required trainings sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and/or the Department of Public Health (schedule of trainings is attached)
  • There will be full participation and compliance with evaluation activities (see description and tools attached)
Eligibility: The Department will make awards to districts with level 4 schools and high teen birth rates which do not currently have funding to implement the It PaYs curriculum (in the district or city).
Funding: A total of $20,820 has been allocated for the grant program. Grant awards of up to $3,470 are available for the following six districts:
  1. Fall River
  2. Lawrence
  3. Lowell
  4. Lynn
  5. New Bedford
  6. Worcester
The Department reserves the right to alter the award to each funded school district. All eligible districts that apply will receive funding in FY 2013 if they are able to meet all program obligations.

Important note about future funding:
It is anticipated that all districts participating in FY2013 will be eligible to apply for funds in FY2014 to continue with evaluation related activities through FY2016 pending availability of funds.
Fund Use: Funds can be used to purchase curricula, support training time for staff (e.g., stipends or travel) to attend required workshops/trainings, and support activities related to the program evaluation.
