Grant Allocations & Awards: FY2014

Fund Code: 105
Integrating College and Career Readiness Demonstration Initiative: Planning Phase Grants

Funds Allocated: $34,200 (State)
Funds Requested: $203,791
Purpose: The purpose of this grant program is to implement a key recommendation in the Integration of College and Career Readiness Task Force Report to incentivize districts to develop cohesive strategies - with specific and measurable outcomes - that engage employers and other stakeholders to increase the availability of career development activities for all students. Four pilot districts* will use these funds for a planning phase to create a comprehensive approach that integrates college and career readiness (CCR) for all students. Grant recipients will plan for and ultimately implement activities that mutually support both academic and workplace readiness for all students in grades 7 through 12.

The planning phase will take place in fiscal year 2014 during which time districts will develop a complete CCR plan before proceeding to their implementation phase. ** The Department intends these districts to serve as demonstration sites to inform both policy and effective practices needed in every district to scale up efforts to prepare all students for success after high school.

*A fifth district selected for this project (Chicopee Public Schools) decided to fund its planning phase as an in-kind contribution.

**Subsequent implementation awards will range from $40,000 to $50,000.
