Result of Funding: Funds will be used to support the establishment of nine prospective innovation schools and innovation academies. The nine prospective innovation schools will serve approximately 3,084 students in grades PK-12. Planning grant funds will be used to support planning activities of the innovation plan committee and all applicable stakeholders. Planning activities to be supported by grant funds include: educator stipends to participate in the development of the innovation plan, curriculum development and design, and consultant services.

Innovation schools are in-district public schools that operate with increased autonomy and flexibilities in six key areas: curriculum, instruction, and assessment; schedule and calendar; staffing; professional development; district policies and procedures; and budget. The innovation school model is rooted in the belief that autonomy and flexibility in one or more of the six identified areas will establish the school conditions that lead to improved teaching and learning.
