Innovation Schools Enhancement Grant

Funds Allocated: $158,016 (Federal - Race to the Top)
Funds Requested: $772,095
Purpose: The purpose of this one-time federally-funded Innovation Schools Enhancement Grant is to provide a supplemental opportunity for approved Innovation Schools that are currently implementing their Innovation School Plans in participating Massachusetts Race to the Top (RTTT) districts to: 1) plan for sustainable expanded learning time strategies by redesigning the daily school schedule and school year calendar, and/or 2) provide targeted professional development activities aligned to the school's approved Innovation School Plan.

Through creative modifications of the daily school schedule and school year calendar, schools will plan for effective uses of expanded learning time. Planning must include modifications that increase instructional time for students and common planning time for teachers. The redesign strategies are intended to be implemented during the 2014-2015 school year.

Funds for providing targeted professional development activities must be aligned to the school's Innovation School Plan and support a minimum of one of the approved autonomies in its Plan. The six (6) areas of Innovation School autonomy are: 1) curriculum, instruction, and assessment, 2) schedule and calendar, 3) staffing, 4) professional development, 5) district policies and procedures, and 6) budget.
