Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) - Student Intern - ELA/Literacy

The Executive Office of Education is comprised of the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE), and the Department of Higher Education (DHE). The Office of Literacy and Humanities (ELA/Literacy) is part of ESE's Center for Instructional Support. Responsibilities include: developing standards and professional resources for English language arts and literacy, history/social science, the arts, and foreign languages as well as statewide assessments for English language arts and English language development.

Job Description:

ESE is seeking students who are eager to maximize their learning and develop their skills by participating in an exciting internship opportunity.

This unpaid internship position with ESE is an excellent opportunity for a student who is interested in learning about state policy and strategies to advance ELA/Literacy education in the Commonwealth. The ELA/Literacy Intern will contribute directly to the development of key ESE ELA/literacy projects and strategies. The Intern will assist in collaborative efforts to refine ELA/literacy resources with a focus on implementing the 2017 Massachusetts Curriculum Framework for English Language Arts and Literacy.


The successful candidate will be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate program and will have a demonstrated superior academic record. He/she will possess excellent verbal and written skills and proficiency with basic office software. Preferred qualifications include a background in an ELA/literacy field (coursework or experience) and experience with ELA/literacy teaching, tutoring, or programming. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, highly organized, and have strong written and oral communication skills.
