Commissioner's Update
July 17, 2009

Dear Superintendents, and Leaders of Charter Schools and Collaboratives:

In this Update I have one announcement and two items for your review.

Hearing for Proprietary Schools Fee Increase

The Executive Office of Administration and Finance (A&F) recently approved the Department's proposal to increase the licensure fees for the approximately 200 private, non-degree granting, post-secondary occupational schools that the Department licenses. By law, these fees are established by A&F through its regulatory authority, thus the proposed fee increase requires the amendment of A&F's regulations. As part of the amendment process, A&F requires the Department, as the agency charging the fee, to conduct a public hearing in accordance with G.L. c. 30A. The public hearing will be conducted on July, 22, 2009 at the Department.
