National Assessment of Educational Progress

blue line

The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also known as "The Nation's Report Card," is the only nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subjects. NAEP assesses representative samples of students in grades 4, 8, and 12.

  • View Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on NAEP's purpose, the sampling process, how students participate, and where to learn more.

  • Read reports on NAEP Results to see how Massachusetts students performed on NAEP.

  • Learn about the similarities and differences between MCAS & NAEP by examining this comparison table.

  • See the Testing Schedule for upcoming NAEP assessments.

  • Access links to important NAEP Resources, including the NAEP Data Explorer and a student video on NAEP.
