Students in grade 11 who are new to Massachusetts public schools may participate in the MCAS November retests (and March retests if necessary) to earn a scaled score of 220 or higher.
New grade 11 students cannot participate in the retests in an attempt to qualify for the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship or the Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery with Distinction Award. New grade 11 students attempting to qualify for the scholarship or award should be advised to participate in the spring 2010 grade 10 tests. (Grade 12 students cannot participate in grade 10 testing to qualify for the scholarship or award.)
The Department recommends that principals and school staff review students' academic records to determine whether to encourage them to participate in retests or in the spring grade 10 tests.
