Board of Education Hosts Forum on Approaches to Leadership Development

Malden - The Massachusetts Board of Education and Department of Education are hosting a forum titled "Approaches to Leadership Development," the third in a series of forums on Education Reform, on Tuesday, January 23, from 1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Department of Education, 350 Main Street, Malden.

Panelists for the forum include:

  • Nadya Aswad Higgins, Executive Director of the Massachusetts Elementary School Principals’ Association
  • Mildred Collins Pierce, Director of The Principals’ Center at the Harvard Graduate School of Education
  • Robert J. Rader, Executive Director of the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education.

Commissioner of Education David P. Driscoll said, "The demand for effective principals and superintendents will be great in the next few years as many present leaders are expected to retire. The Board and Department are committed to increasing the number and quality of candidates for school and district leadership positions."

As Massachusetts enters the second phase of Education Reform, the top priority of the Board of Education and Department of Education is raising student achievement by implementing a system of accountability for results and by supporting conditions for effective schools.
