Statement by Education Commissioner David P. Driscoll Regarding Judge Margot Botsford’s April 26 Ruling on Hancock vs. Driscoll

MALDEN - "Today's report by Judge Botsford makes clear that we have made great progress with education reform and, moreover, that the Commonwealth's current emphasis on accountability and school and district leadership is the right way to go. We believe the Supreme Judicial Court will ultimately agree with those particular conclusions.”

Judge Botsford rejected the plaintiffs' request for a 21st Century Foundation Budget Commission, recommending instead that we do a thorough analysis and make recommendations for improving the foundation budget formula. I view this as part of my ongoing responsibility as Commissioner of Education.”

This challenge is consistent with the efforts already underway by the administration, the Legislature and other education groups around the state. As Commissioner, I am committed to providing all schools with the tools and resources they need to achieve even greater student sccess."
