NEW National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Administrative Review (AR) Process Training for Schools Scheduled for an Administrative Review in SY 2015-2016

To:School Nutrition Program Directors
From:Robert Leshin, Acting Director
Office for Nutrition, Health and Safety Programs
Date:September 3, 2015

The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act, as amended by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA), requires a unified accountability system designed to ensure that participating school food authorities (SFAs) comply with National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) requirements. The Act also requires an accountability system that conducts Administrative Reviews to evaluate Program requirements for NSLP and SBP during a three-year cycle. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Office for Nutrition, Health and Safety Programs has currently scheduled six trainings on the New Administrative Review Process for districts that are scheduled for a review during the 2015-2016 school year. The purpose of this training is to address the program requirements of the Administrative Review process. Please refer the attached list below to see if your Local Education Agency (LEA) is scheduled for a NSLP review during this school year. Attendance by the School Nutrition Director and Business Manager is strongly recommended as the scope of the review has expanded in several areas including financial resource management. Training sessions are scheduled on the following dates and locations across the state. All trainings are scheduled from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. Registration will begin at 8:30 am.
