Edwin Analytics Newsletter Volume 1, Issue 4

Preliminary PARCC Results

Preliminary PARCC results are scheduled for release during the last week in October. Data files (CSV) and roster reports (PDF) will be burst to district and schools drop boxes respectively. In addition, Edwin Analytics will provide access to preliminary PARCC results in the following reports:
  • PR600 Student Profile – An existing report available on the Student > Assessments tab which provides the complete assessment history for an individual student. This report will be updated to include PARCC.
  • PE334 PARCC Results by Subgroup – A new report which will be available on the District & School – Public > Assessments tab and will provide the percent of students by PARCC achievement level and subgroup at the district and school levels.
  • PE637 PARCC Student Roster – A new report which will be available on the Student > Assessments tab and will provide a roster of students and their PARCC achievement levels, CPIs, and transitional SGPs. This report will also be burst to school drop boxes.
ESE Student Assessment is planning PARCC reporting teleconferences. Additional questions can be address to Student Assessment at PARCC@doe.mass.edu.

Tab Changes for District & School Administrators

As explained in the last newsletter, the new SCS cube will be released simultaneously with changes to the name and content of the restricted District & School tab (visible to district and school administrators only). The changes will remove all reports currently repeated on the District & School – Public tab since district and school administrators can access these reports there along with all EA users. In addition, sections no longer containing reports will be removed and a new Classroom section, containing the SCS cube and future reports with aggregate classroom data, will be added. The revised restricted tab will contain the following sections, cubes, and reports only. These items contain unsurpressed "small cells" and are therefore not present on the public tab:

Assessments

  • ACCESS for ELLs District & School Summary (EL327)
  • MCAS Detailed School Achievement Distribution (PE408)
  • MCAS Cube

Early Warning Indicators

  • EWIS Subgroup Analysis (EW318)

Enrollment & Indicators

  • All of the Enrollment & Indicator reports beginning with the EI prefix
  • SIMS Cube

Classroom

  • Class Size by Course Level-Cube View (CL203)
  • Class Size by School Poverty Level-Cube View (CL204)
  • Course Completions and Passing Rates-Cube View (CL205)
  • Student Marks Distribution by Class Size-Cube View (CL206)
  • SCS Cube
Sections and public reports removed from the restricted tab but still available on the District & School – Public tab are as follows:
  • Most aggregate MCAS & Growth reports in Assessments
  • EW301, EW302, EW317 in Early Warning Indicators
  • Education Personnel section
  • CS301, EL324, SD320, SE322, and SP323 in Enrollments & Indicators
  • Postsecondary Readiness & Success section
  • School Readiness section
  • Finance section
Unfortunately, the SCS cube, although aggregated data, cannot be made available to all users because it contains small cells, which in some cases can make student identification possible. Unlike reports, cubes cannot be set to suppress small cells.

Edwin Analytics Webinars

The next scheduled webinar is on Tuesday, November 3rd from 3-4 PM. You can still sign up to learn about the Early Warning Indicator System (EWIS) Reports. After this webinar we intend to start scheduling webinars on the first day of every month, or as close as possible, instead of on the same day of the week to avoid repeated conflict with local meeting schedules. As yet there is no webinar scheduled for December. If you have ideas or requests for future webinars, please send them to edwinanalytics@doe.mass.edu with 'webinar' in the subject line.

Learn More with Data In Action Videos

The first on-line videos to support educators in their use of the ESE's School and District Profiles are now available. If a video exists for a particular report, the 'Learn More' icon will be visible in the upper right corner of the report. We hope to have the 'Learn More' videos available in Edwin Analytics by November 1st. Look for the icon next to report names in the EA tabs. Thank you for taking the time to read this information. To submit questions, please use the EOE IT web form.
