2015 in Review

As the calendar year comes to an end, though the school year is in full swing and there is still much to do, we are taking a moment to reflect on the progress we've made in calendar year 2015.

Reports and Cubes

If you haven't had a chance to test out any of these new reports and cubes, or enhancements to existing, here is a summary of what you've missed and might want to investigate when you have the time.

New Reports Released for all EA Users:

  • PARCC Results by Subgroup on Public tab (PE334/PE434) – Provides the percent of students by PARCC achievement level and subgroup at the district/school levels.

  • CVTE Graduate Pathway Summary: MA Public Postsecondary (CR321) – Details postsecondary enrollment, outcomes, and continuation of vocational field of study for MA public school graduates who were CVTE concentrators and who enrolled in a MA public postsecondary institution.

  • ELL Longitudinal Outcomes (EL324) – Provides information about student performance for a selected cohort of students at a future point in time, allowing users to compare performance results for students who exited an ELL program with their peers who were never classified as ELL.

  • Disciplinary Removal Analysis (SD320) – Provides district's aggregate disciplinary removal for either a single year or across a three-year trend to understand the frequency of removals students receive and the type of removals administered. The report can be run with a graphical display and for one-to-many schools within the district.

  • Students with IEPs Comparison (SP323) – Compares outcomes of students with IEPs to students in general education on either student indicators or MCAS achievement trend results. Can be run for all students in the state, a selected district, or one-to-many schools.

  • Postsecondary Readiness & Success report (CR304) – Details postsecondary enrollment, achievement, and outcomes of MA public graduating students from a fall enrollment class in a specific MA public postsecondary institution. It also contains details by "feeder" MA public high schools.

New Reports Released for District & School Administrators:

  • PARCC Student Roster (PE637) – Provides a roster of students and their PARCC achievement levels, CPIs, and transitional SGPs. This report is also burst to school dropboxes.

  • Student Progress Towards MassCore (CR601) – Displays a list of high school students and their progress towards completing the MassCore recommended program of study. Identifies students who are falling behind and enables drill-drown to investigate course completions for specific students.

2015 Report Usage by Subject Area

With new reports and roles created for Collaboratives, Private Special Education Programs, Educator Prep Programs, and all the state education agency providers in addition to public school administrators and teachers, our registered users now total over 22,000. Reports have been run over 1,000,000 times since January 1, 2015. Below is a breakdown of the report usage by subject area. 2015 Report Usage Pie Chart

Communication and Support

In June the staffing of the help desk ended and all of IT began actively using the new web form ticketing system to keep track of requests. We thank you for using the EOE IT web form and being patient with our efforts to reply promptly. A special thanks to all the Edwin Analytics Contacts in the districts who assist us by assisting their district's users.

Newsletters

We began writing monthly newsletters last summer in the hope of keeping users informed. We've tried to keep them short and when we haven't had much to say—as in November—we've abstained from writing one. We hope the news we've shared has been helpful.

Webinars

We hosted 3 webinars at the beginning of the school year and have solicited requests for additional topics of future webinars. This request is still open! Please send ideas to edwinanalytics@doe.mass.edu with 'webinar' in the subject line.

Learn More with Data in Action Videos

Produced by DESE staff working with an outside vendor, 28 videos that provide additional assistance understanding and using 30 Edwin Analytics reports are now easily linked from the tab pages and the report descriptions. There is also a central location for easy access to all the DIA Learn More videos, DART and Profiles in addition to Edwin Analytics.

2016 and Beyond

In 2016 we will continue to improve reports and cubes to best serve their intended users. We will try to make data loads more timely whenever it is within our control to do so. We will continue to support both SIF and manual claiming but hope that more districts will join the 2 out of 3 districts currently claiming via SIF. And we will continue to be open to your suggestions and requests for improvements. Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support! Happy New Year and remainder of the School Year from the Edwin Analytics Team:
