This event will highlight PBIS as a way to prevent and respond to student behavior. Presenters will describe PBIS, highlight resources, describe general readiness requirements, give a quick overview of the PBIS Academy, and provide guidance for schools to use when selecting quality training and TA providers (as not all schools will qualify for the MTSS PBIS Academy). Tentative Agenda:
  • 8:30-9:00 Registration and Welcome
  • 9:00-10:15 Keynote: Brandi Simonsen, PhD. and Jennifer Freeman, PhD.
  • 10:30-11:45 Concurrent Breakout sessions:
  • Breakout sessions will be based on grade level (elementary, middle, and high school). Presenters will be from schools that have implemented PBIS in their buildings. They will describe how their team/staff have approached the particular area and will (a) share examples of created materials, (b) include data demonstrating success, (c) highlight any challenges, and (d) describe strategies for addressing those challenges.
  • Three breakout sessions will be offered at each grade level. The focus will be on (1) PBIS Practices (e.g., defining and teaching expected behavior, student acknowledgement systems), (2) PBIS Systems (e.g., effective leadership teams, professional development and staff support, staff recognition systems), and (3) PBIS Data (e.g., SWIS, data-based decision making or problem solving, sharing data with faculty). Participants should select the most relevant session for attendance however teams are not required to all attend the same sessions.
  • 11:45-12:45 Lunch/Break: Lunch available for purchase through venue concession (no additional food may be brought into the meeting rooms)
  • 12:45-2:00 Concurrent Breakout sessions
  • 2:15-3:30 Concurrent Breakout Sessions
Audience: Teams of 2 to 5 public school district personnel may register to attend. Districts are required to ensure that the team includes at least an administrator of special education and a school principal or a person with the authority to make programming implementation decisions. Teams might also include roles such as Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Special Education Administrators, Family Engagement Coordinators, Other Building Administrators, and Guidance/Adjustment Counselors. 274 Improving School Discipline Registration
