Edwin Analytics Training Curriculum Being Developed

As part of the federal State Longitudinal Data Systems (SLDS) grant recently awarded to Massachusetts, a complete Edwin Analytics training curriculum is being developed that will emphasize the application of reports and tools to educator practice and will mix interactive online resources with face-to-face learning. The development is being overseen by ESE's Office of Digital Learning (ODL), one of their key initiatives being to support the development of interactive online resources for educators. These resources, called learning objects, are self-contained chunks of e-learning on critical topics. ODL is hiring an e-learning developer specifically for the Edwin Analytics curriculum. Learning objects present content, provide learning activities and assessments of that learning, and engage participants in simulations and scenarios. Learning objects can be combined to form longer units of learning and in blended learning environments (face-to-face learning combined with online learning). The intended audience for the Edwin Analytics e-learning curriculum is aspiring educators enrolled in preparation programs but ultimately the curriculum will help both aspiring and current educators go deeper and connect the data to instruction. The Office of Digital Learning supports the expansion of digital learning capacity and literacy to advance learning for every student in the Commonwealth. It provides polices, guidance, professional development and support in the following areas: district technology and infrastructure capacity, classroom level instructional tools, assistive technology resources, virtual schools and online courses, and emerging digital learning trends.

State Assessments in Edwin Analytics

Below is the information we have received from ESE's Student Assessment group on the available results for state testing.

MCAS 2016

  • Anticipate that the preliminary release will be in late June or early July.

  • Student roster report is expected to contain results for PARCC items that will be included on the MCAS test.

PARCC 2016

The PARCC results for 2016 will be available in the same 5 Edwin Analytics reports as were available in 2015. Images of these as well as Excel spreadsheets providing school and district PARCC results are available.
  • PARCC Results by Subgroup on Public tab (PE334 and PE434) – Provides the percent of students by PARCC achievement level and subgroup at the district/school levels.

  • PARCC Student Roster (PE637) – Provides a roster of students and their PARCC achievement levels, CPIs, and transitional SGPs. This report is also burst to school dropboxes.

  • Student Profile Report (PR600) – Provides a history of student data such as SIMS, classes collected in SCS, MCAS and PARCC, as well as MEPA and ACCESS.

  • Assessment History Summary (PE613) – Provides a student's entire state assessment history including PARCC and MCAS.

MCAS 2.0

The process of integrating a new test into the existing Edwin Analytics database structure is dependent on the completion of the assessment development process. As MCAS 2.0 is an entirely new assessment, the number and type of reports to be provided in Edwin for 2017 and beyond is yet to be determined. Information about the development of MCAS 2.0 is available on the ESE's public website.
