Baker-Polito Administration Announces $1.7 Million for Additional Learning Time in 17 Schools

MALDEN - Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Mitchell D. Chester today announced $1.7 million in 21st Century Community Learning Centers grants for additional learning time. Through this federally funded grant program, approximately 3,500 students in 17 schools will benefit from additional learning time, either in the form of a longer school day or through programs outside of school hours. This programming will provide students with engaging core content instruction, project-based and/or service-learning experiences, and opportunities for academic enrichment. In addition, the funded sites will serve as models and resources for other programs across the Commonwealth. These programs will also engage with various community partners to support students' learning and social/emotional and physical development. Grant awards range from $50,000 to $269,450. "Additional learning time will give students more opportunities to work on core skills and participate in enrichment activities," said Governor Charlie Baker. "I'm pleased these schools in our communities and Gateway Cities will be able to take advantage of these grants as we work to build and support better schools across the Commonwealth."
