Information about Integrated Education and Training and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education Funding Opportunity

July 5, 2018

Dear Workforce Partners.

Provided the state budget gets approved at the increased funding level, Adult and Community Learning Services (ACLS) plans to release an Integrated Education and Training (IET) and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) Request for Proposals (RFP) in September. We anticipate that this funding opportunity will be available to the following local workforce areas: Berkshire, Bristol, Cape Cod, Hampden (IET only), Metro Southwest, North Shore, and South Shore. Programs in these local areas that submitted proposals for IETs and/or IELCEs in the FY 2019-2022 Adult Education Services RFP are encouraged to re-apply. In addition, programs that did not receive funding are encouraged to contact Derek Kalchbrenner for feedback on their IET and/or IELCE proposals.

IET models provide adult education (pre-ASE and ASE instruction) concurrently and contextually with workforce preparation activities, and workforce training that result in students attaining one or more industry-recognized credentials required for local area employment in high-demand industries. IELCE models provide English literacy (ESOL) and civics education concurrently and contextually with workforce preparation activities and workforce training.

Priority will be given to applicants who propose advanced manufacturing, auto mechanics, banking, building and property maintenance, information technology, and welding models. Programs are encouraged to collaborate with a school that has a Career/Vocational Technical Education (CVTE) program for the workforce training component of the program and connect with the local workforce board for input into the IET or IELCE services in the local workforce area.

Watch for information on an August IET and IELCE webinar whose topics will include working with local workforce boards on program development, partnering with CVTE schools, and workforce training resources. You can also review currently funded IET and IELCE services.

Sincerely,
Jolanta Conway
MA AE State Director
