Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)

Bilingual Education MTEL Now Available

The Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure (MTEL) is now available for Bilingual Education. For more information about the test, or to register, please go to the Evaluation Systems of Pearson website.

Due to the impacts of COVID-19, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is implementing an interim passing status for the new Bilingual Education test. During this interim period, candidates will earn a status of "Met the Minimum Requirement" or "Did Not Meet the Minimum Requirement" based on correctly responding to a minimum of 61% of the multiple-choice questions. Candidates who earn a status of "Met the Minimum Requirement" have met the testing requirement for the Bilingual Education Endorsement. An updated passing score requirement will be set by DESE at a later date.
