Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL)

Update: English MTEL Qualifying Score Conference and Score Report Delays

We are writing to share an important update regarding the score reports for the English MTEL. Unfortunately, the English MTEL Qualifying Score Conference has now been delayed twice as a result of not having enough panelists. This Qualifying Score Conference is an imperative step in making a recommendation to the Commissioner to determine the passing score for the test. At this time, the Department is rescheduling the conference; however this will result in a significant delay in the score report release. Please share this information with any potential employer so that they are aware of the delay.

Educators without a current teaching license may apply for an emergency license, which is valid through June of 2022. Please see more information here: Emergency License Extended.

Educators may also consider asking their affiliated school or district to seek a waiver on their behalf until the results of their MTEL are available. Districts can access information to apply for a licensure waiver here: Process to Request a Waiver for Educator Licensure.

Please see our prior posting for more information about the Qualifying Score Conference process.

The Department will provide more information regarding the status of the English MTEL score reports as soon as it becomes available.
