Education Board Meets To Discuss Teacher Certification Regulations At Special MeetingMalden - Multiple routes to obtaining licensure, content knowledge, and future roles of schools of education in educator and administrator preparation will be some of the topics of discussion at a special meeting of the Board of Education on Monday, March 27, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in Malden. The Board of Education will be joined at the meeting by members of the Commonwealth Education Deans' Council. The Department of Education is in the process of revising the current Regulations for the Certification for Educators. A concept paper, "Proposed Routes to Licensure, Licenses, and Standards for Massachusetts Educators" was distributed in December for public comment. Commissioner of Education David P. Driscoll said, "With guidance from the public comment, we are preparing draft regulations to present to the Board of Education in April. We have already begun to meet with groups, to hear their concerns and consider changes to the draft. We will continue to do so over the next few months." Several public forums will also be held to address various issues such as suitable majors for the elementary license. The Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 28 at 9 a.m. in Malden. For more information on visit the educator certification website.
