|To:||Academic Support Summer Allocation Grant Contacts and Superintendents|
|From:||Rachelle Engler Bennett, Director of Learning Support Services|
|Date:||May 23, 2012|
Please note that the Department will be redistributing unclaimed Fiscal Year 2012 Academic Support funds through summer 2012 Academic Support grant (Fund Code 625) allocation increases upon request on a rolling basis until all available funds are encumbered.
Districts that applied for fiscal year 2012 Fund Code 625 grants (for 7/1/2012-8/31/2012 services) and/or Fund Code 632 grants (for 9/1/2011-6/30/2012 services) may request to increase their allocations by up to $5,000, and approved private special education schools and collaboratives may request an increase of up to $2,000. To request these funds, 1) email a completed addendum form AND revised budget/budget narrative pages (new budget pages if you have not already applied for a Fund Code 625 summer grant) to firstname.lastname@example.org; and 2) mail the Learning Support Services Unit a Fund Code 625 Part I Signature Page (see address on form).
Requests will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis, and the total number of requests may exceed available funds (approximately $200,000), so please submit the required forms as soon as possible. A note will be posted when all funds have been requested in the News section on the top of http://www.doe.mass.edu/as/grants/. We anticipate that this year all available funds may be requested before the end of May.
The purpose of these supplementary funds is to create or enhance summer academic support in English language arts (ELA), mathematics, and science and technology/engineering for students in the classes of 2003-2016 who are participating in summer MCAS Academic Support programs, in order to help these students meet the Competency Determination for a high school diploma. Programs may use the funds to create, increase, or enhance services and/or to pilot replicable modules and curriculum created through Professional Learning Communities.
Eligible lead applicants are school districts, approved private special education schools, and collaboratives that will be running summer 2012 Fund Code: 625 and/or ran school year 2012 Fund Code: 632 Academic Support Allocation Grant programs. If applying with partners who are also eligible entities, the proposal may request the combined amounts of the eligible entities.
Fund use may include, but not necessarily be limited to: stipends for teachers and partners to implement activities in the summer program(s); stipends for the development and piloting of learning module(s)/curriculum consultant and contract fees to provide program-related professional development; relevant instructional materials and resources; and transportation, if needed, to enable student participation in services.
Please contact the Learning Support Services Unit via email@example.com or 781-338-3010 with any questions you may have.
