Public Hearing Scheduled for Virtual School Application
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) has scheduled a hearing for members of the public to comment on the virtual school application submitted by The Education Cooperative. The public hearing will be held on Monday, December 16 from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. at the Department's offices in Malden. Directions are available on the Department's website.
The public may also participate in the hearing remotely through the use of Google+ Hangout. This will require the use of an Internet-connected computer equipped with a video camera. For instructions on speaking or simply observing the public hearing remotely using Google+ Hangout, see the instructions below.
The public hearing represents an opportunity for interested parties to provide feedback on the application. At least one member of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education will attend the hearing and report back to the full Board on the public testimony provided at the hearing.
Members of the public can also submit written comments through Monday, January 6, 2014, to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education by sending an email to email@example.com.
The application will undergo a rigorous review process over the next few months. The process includes a review of the written application by a review team, a public hearing, an interview of the applicant group by the Department, and a review of any public comments offered to the Department. Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Mitchell Chester will then review all of the materials and make final recommendations to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education for consideration and vote at its February 25, 2014 meeting.
