Online Modules & Courses

When it comes to professional learning, less is often more. With a limited amount of time to capture the interest and attention of adult learners, content should be presented interactively and judiciously. To that end, ESE is moving towards a model of short, interactive tutorials that can be accessed online at any time, called reusable learning objects (RLOS).

An RLO is a self-contained chunk of e-learning. RLOs can present content, provide learning activities and assessments of that learning, and engage participants in simulations and scenarios. Unlike a traditional course, which comes in a several hour chunk, RLOs are much smaller units of learning, typically ranging from 2-5 minutes. Depending on the intended objective/outcome, RLOs can be combined to form longer units of learning, used as a stand-alone learning resource (100 percent virtual), and used in a blended learning environment (i.e., in which face-to-face learning is combined with online learning).

Notes: The below resources should be viewed in the context of the program(s) they represent before formal use. If you experience difficulty with the accessibility of these resources, please request materials in an alternate format.
