Assistive Technology School Share Program
The Assistive Technology School Share program can make it easier for schools across the state to get assistive technology (AT) for their students with disabilities. This innovative and potentially cost-saving program is run by MassMATCH, the AT Act program of Massachusetts.
Each year Massachusetts school districts buy AT for eligible students to use. Eventually, these students graduate or move away, leaving the AT behind. Over time, school districts accumulate equipment that could be of use to students in other schools.
The Assistive Technology School Share program is a no-cost, members-only, online system for equipment inventory and reuse. It is designed to help its members:
- Track their AT inventory, so they know what they have and where it is. Schools can participate even if they don't want to lend out their AT.
- Post their AT needs, in case other schools/districts have what they are looking for.
- Search the equipment inventories of other schools/districts.
- Borrow unused AT from participating schools/districts.
- Donate or lend their unused AT to other schools/districts. Members decide whether they want to donate/lend their unused AT and to whom
- Share their AT expertise and learn from colleagues who have experience with the AT they want to know about.
With the help of local schools, Massachusetts can build a rich database of available equipment and a broad community of educators with AT know-how.
