Re:Calculated Claim Amounts; January 2004 Deadline

stopline

All student Claims for Restitution against the CLC insurance bond have been reviewed. On December 19, 2003 the Department sent letters to all students seeking restitution with a worksheet used to determine the amount of tuition owed them. To arrive at the claim amount, the Department used documentation provided by the student, and when applicable, documentation provided by Sallie Mae Loan, SLM loan servicing, and the bankruptcy trustee for Computer Learning Centers, Inc. (www.clcs.com). The Department also reviewed each student's transcript to determine the courses completed. The Department has determined that some students completed their programs of study, and are therefore not eligible for reimbursement, and many students' loans had been discharged and therefore their claim amounts were either reduced or negated.

The Department has asked each claimant to review their worksheet for accuracy and to contact the Department with any questions at 781-338-6048 or proprietaryschools@doe.mass.edu. Please remember our staff is here to assist claimants with this process and that we ultimately need to satisfy documentation requirements set by the insurance company.

If your worksheet shows you are owed money, please submit W-9 and Terms and Conditions Forms included in the mailing with your current contact information (e.g., address, telephone, name) to the Department by January 30, 2004.

If you filed a claim but did not receive a letter and believe you were owed restitution, please contact the Department before January 30, 2004. After January 30, 2004 all claims will be considered final and the Department will send the calculated claim amounts to the insurance company.

The Department greatly appreciates your help in keeping the volume of phone calls it receives to a minimum by checking this web-site for future updates. It helps our small staff concentrate on completing the high volume of work experienced by this unit. We thank you for your help and patience in this matter.
