Massachusetts Proprietary Schools

Licensed Proprietary Schools and Their Approved Branch Locations

This list includes all private, non-degree granting post-secondary occupational schools currently licensed or registered by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department) and all sales representatives licensed by the Department to solicit students in their homes. Schools not on this list or schools operating at locations not on this list may be not be required to be licensed, may be overseen by another state agency (Department of Higher Education, Division of Professional Licensure, Division of Professional Licensure, Department of Occupational Safety), or may be operating in violation of state statutes.

Any actions taken by the Department against licenses are posted on the Department's website. Please also consult the list of suspensions and founded complaints for more information.

The Department makes no warranties, representations, or assertions as to the quality and caliber of schools or their programs and teachers. It is the responsibility of prospective students to fully research any institution prior to enrollment. Please see the students' section of this website for more information.

Schools that are accredited by a U.S. Department of Education-approved accrediting agency may also apply to the U.S. Department of Education to obtain approval for their students to access federal student aide. Schools not approved for Title IV may only access private student loans. Please see the students' section of this website for more information on student loans.
The following schools have programs that are approved for the GI Bill. At these schools, veterans can utilize their GI Bill benefits. Be sure to check with the institution's Veterans Certifying Official for approved programs. For more information, contact the Office of Veterans Education at 617-994-6914 or veted@bhe.mass.edu
These are schools that have been in business a minimum of two years and have programs approved by the DUA for inclusion on TrainingPro. Please visit the website for TrainingPro for more information.
In accordance with state statutes, schools may not advertise accreditations from agencies not approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
If a license below appears to be expired, it should be noted that M.G.L. C. 30A, § 13 provides that if a holder of a license has "made timely and sufficient application for a renewal, his license shall not expire until his application has been finally determined by the agency." Thus, if a school has submitted all of the required documentation, has paid the application fee, and has been determined financially eligible to operate by the Office of the State Auditor, such school's license shall remain valid until the Department determines whether to renew it.
