Subject Areas of Proprietary Schools Currently Licensed by the Department
Below are examples of the types of occupational subject areas licensed1 by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education under the three proprietary school statutes. Because a subject area is not included on this list does not imply that it is exempt from licensure. Please contact the Department if you are unclear whether a subject area must be licensed as a private occupational school. Please note that real estate schools are licensed by the Board of Registration of Real Estate, while cosmetology, aesthetics, and manicuring schools are licensed by the Board of Registration of Cosmetologists.
