The John Silber Early Reading Program supports twenty-nine identified school districts and thirty-six schools in implementing the components of Reading First: leadership for literacy, three tiers of curriculum instruction, assessment to inform instruction, coaching and professional development and supporting technical assistance using proven scientifically based reading instruction of the five modules of reading guided by assessment: phonemic awareness, phonics, word study, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
