School Redesign

Commonwealth Pilot ("Co-Pilot") Schools

Please submit comments, questions and feedback on the Commonwealth Pilot Schools initative to redesign@doe.mass.edu.

At its November 28, 2006 meeting, the Board of Education offered four Underperforming schools the choice of designation as Chronically Underperforming in accordance with state law, or to apply to become "Commonwealth Pilot Schools", with site-based autonomies similar to those of pilot schools operating within the Boston Public Schools system. The Commonwealth Pilot School model is intended to provide the school and district with maximum autonomy over resources in exchange for increased accountability for student results.
