Its activities include:

  • Advising the ESE on methodological and technical issues that may arise while developing research projects, writing research proposals, selecting vendors, producing analysis, and reporting results.

  • Reviewing third-party requests for data for research purposes, to ensure that study designs are rigorous and likely to yield useful analysis for policy and decision-making.

  • Reviewing selected research reports produced by ESE staff and contractors to ensure their quality and rigor.

  • Advising on the practicalities of how research projects are implemented in schools.

  • Identifying potential external resources for advancing the research agenda, such as research grants, student research projects, or interns.
