Adequate Yearly Progress

2003 AYP Materials | Reports

Select Review Year: 2008 | 2007 | 2006 | 2005 | 2004 | 2003 | 2002 & Earlier

Summary: Massachusetts released 2003 Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) determinations for schools and districts on December 4, 2003. The 2003 Mid-Cycle AYP Reports represent the first time that the state released AYP determinations for student subgroups in each school and district, in addition to students in the aggregate. Mid-Cycle III ratings were based on MCAS English language arts/reading (ELA) and mathematics test results for 2003. Separate ratings were issued for ELA and mathematics.

Improvement was rated by comparing a school, district, or subgroup's 2003 performance with its performance during Cycle II (2001 and 2002), the baseline years for Cycle III.

2003 Mid-Cycle AYP Reports reflected changes in the U.S. Department of Education's rules for the inclusion of LEP assessment data in AYP calculations. Other highlights included the incorporation of Grade 3 Alternate Assessment reading scores and the removal of students working near grade level from the Alternate Performance Index.
