School and District Accountability

Restructuring & Redesign

To fulfill its accountability mandate, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education supports the efforts of educators to improve the quality of educational services and supports delivered in schools. Key initiatives include the Commonwealth Pilot Schools model and Expanded Learning Time Schools that use longer school days and/or years to help students meet higher performance standards.

orange arrowCommonwealth Pilot ("Co-Pilot") Schools
The Commonwealth Pilot School model is intended to provide schools and districts with maximum autonomy over resources in exchange for increased accountability for student results.
orange arrowExpanded Learning Time Schools
Expanded Learning Time Schools use longer school days and/or years to help students meet higher performance standards.
