| Program Description (written by provider) |
Taunton staff and administrators have expended a great deal of time and effort analyzing the results of the state (MCAS) reading and math tests in grades 3 and 4, the DRA and DIBELS Reading Assessments for Kindergarten, the Stanford 9 for grade 2 in reading and mathematics and Harcourt on line reading assessment in Grades 1-4. Results of theses analyses were identified in an Action Plan for Student Improvement in each school. In addition, the data analysis for each student will be used to create an Individual Student Success Plan used during the extended day program.
The overall goal of the district is to provide an extended day program that will raise the learning standards for at-risk students in grades 3 and 4. The program will provide a before school and/or after school program, a Saturday program and an intercession program that is collaborative and engaging to students and will enhance students’ reading, writing and mathematics skills.
The primary goal is to provide an extended day program that incorporates a series of diverse and integrated activities for students in grades 3 and 4 that help them meet or exceed rigorous state and local standards in reading, writing and mathematics. The program’s activities will integrate tutoring, self-paced computer assisted standards based instruction, use research-based strategies to increase student achievement, and support one on one interaction between the student and the instructor.
Students who qualify will attend the reading/writing and/or math program approximately twenty hours monthly. A portfolio of each student’s work will be used as a rubric and kept to allow for each student’s progress. The ultimate success of the program will be student improvement in their regular studies in the current and subsequent school year and their results on the state and national standardized assessments identified above.
Core academic skills will be imbedded within the exercises offered to the children. Both remedial and enhanced opportunities for self-paced computer assisted work in reading and math will be featured at each site.
Resources and programs used during the regular school day will be incorporated into the extended school program so that students will have an extended day experience that supports their classroom learning.

| Evidence of Effectiveness (written by provider) |
Taunton Public Schools is asking for a waiver and to reinstate its status as a Supplementary Educational Service Provider for the next school year. However, we have provided supplemental and regular school services specifically aimed at the at-risk population in a most focused way over the last seven years through extended day/year programs both before and after school, on Saturdays, vacation school programs and summer school programs. Taunton has continued to make progress as evidenced by the following data issued by DOE in Cycle IV.
2006 AYP DATA – All Grades All groups including the Aggregate with the exception of Afr. Amer/Black met AYP for ELA including the safe harbor protection. In mathematics, the aggregate did meet AYP but Low income and Afr Amer./Black did not. Title I schools which did not meet AYP for Cycle IV include the following: Leddy ELA(Aggregate and Sub-groups) Pole ELA(Subgroups) Maxham ELA. (Aggregate) Walker ELA(Aggregate and subgroups) District-wide grade 4 students in ELA did improve their CPI by moving from78.5 in 05 to 78.8 in 06. All Title I schools met AYP in mathematics for Cycle IV.
All Taunton Public Schools second graders participate in the Stanford9 Achievement Test Series in Mathematics and Reading. District wide scores reveal that they scored at the 69-6 for Total Reading for the National Individual PR-S of Mean NCE and 72-6 for Total math. 56% scored in the Advanced/Proficient categories in Total Reading and 64% scored in the Advanced Proficient icategories in Total Math.

Because of the Harcourt On-Line Assessment and the Everyday Mathematics program, all students at each grade level (1-4) will take a pre-test this year and the post-test in the spring to measure individual progress. This data is another indicator of student progress and will be used to evaluate the extended day program.
