Provider: Knowledge Connection, Inc., A KnowledgePoints Learning Center

 Provider Details

 Program Description (written by provider)
KnowledgePoints offers reading and math tutoring to students in grades 1-12. Tutoring takes place in-person at the student’s school, community locations or at KnowledgePoints Learning Center. The program is held before or after school or on weekends. Each session is 1-2 hours long, once or twice per week, depending on student/parent schedules. Tutors work with students individually in small groups (up to 5 students) to provide personalized instruction. A Learning Plan is created for students based upon their pre-test results and data provided by the school. Our tutors use learning materials that are aligned with the MA Curriculum Framework. Students take a post-test to measure success. KnowledgePoints staff includes state certified teachers. Our communication between tutors/staff, school/district, parents/guardians, provides the best learning environment for student success.
Evidence of Effectiveness (written by provider)
KnowledgePoints uses the California Achievement Test (CAT/5) and/or Achieve Assessment to measure student achievement. These are national standardized tests. Pre and post tests data is used to place students in the program and to measure their results at the end. Students showed significant gains in Math and Reading after 20-30 hours of instruction. In 2008-2009 students continued to show improvement in Math and Reading as evidenced by gains in Grade Equivalency and Percentile ranking.

Analysis of student scores showed Normal Curve Equivalency (NCE) gains of 27 points for Total Reading and 28 points for Total Math. These are exceptional scores when compared to other remedial programs. National model programs are defined by gains of 10 to 15 NCE points over a period of one school year. The KnowledgePoints program results are documented in an independent study conducted by Jerry Litzenberger, PhD in Measurement and Educational Psychology. Parents stated that they saw improvement in the student’s performance and attitude.
