Supplemental Educational Services

Provider: Brienza’s Academic Advantage

 Provider Details

 Program Description (written by provider)
Brienza’s Academic Advantage is a highly effective SES provider with a history of providing outstanding private tutoring for the past sixteen years. Our Supplemental Educational Services Program offers students from K-8 instruction in literacy, mathematics and test preparation. Students may also be eligible to participate in our Tune in to Reading Program. This program helps develop fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills through singing songs. Sessions are held at the student’s school and scheduled to be most effective for the school and students. Group size is medium allowing for teachers to address each student’s strengths and weaknesses. Students are given an exam at the beginning of the program, which assists the teacher in developing an individualized educational plan. At the end of the program, students will take a post exam that will measure each student's growth. Parents will receive periodic progress reports and our staff will be available to meet with parents as needed. Brienza’s Academic Advantage employs state certified teachers to deliver instruction. Teachers participate in mandatory professional development prior to the onset of services. In this way, teachers can be best prepared to deliver our curriculum, which is aligned with Massachusetts Frameworks.
Evidence of Effectiveness (written by provider)
All students in our SES program are given diagnostic and post exams. The results from these tests are analyzed and compared to determine each student’s degree of improvement. Such comparisons revealed significant increases in student achievement. In each grade, there were increases in the average reading and math test scores. The average reading post exam scores showed an increase of 22.10% in all grades; the math post exam scores showed an increase of 18.71%. The Options Math Indicator and the Options Reading Indicator will be used which is aligned to Massachusetts Curriculum Framework in grades K-12. Further, The Options Math Indicator and the Options Reading Indicators is designed to measure skills and standards important to growth across the curriculum. As a nationally recognized instrument of assessment and achievement, it promises to add a dimension of focused instruction for all students.
