FY10 Supplemental Educational Services (SES) Satisfaction Survey for Parents and Guardians

To:Title I Directors and District Administrators of Supplemental Educational Services (SES) in Boston, Brockton, Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Malden, New Bedford, Springfield, and Worcester
Copy:Margaret C. O'Hare, Director, Massachusetts Parent Information & Resource Center
From:School Improvement Grant Programs
Date:June 29, 2010

The purpose of this memo is to announce the availability of an online Supplemental Educational Services (SES) satisfaction survey for parents and guardians. We ask that you reach out, to the extent practicable, to the parents and guardians in your district whose children received SES during the 2009-10 school year and ask them to complete this five-to ten-minute pilot survey. The survey, which will be open until August 31, 2010, is available at http://www.surveygizmo.com/s/315325/fy10-ses-parent-and-guardian-survey.

Technical Assistance

Although parents and guardians from any district can take the survey, this year we are focusing our technical assistance and outreach efforts on the following districts: Boston, Brockton, Fall River, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Malden, New Bedford, Springfield, and Worcester. Next year, we will disseminate the survey to all districts.

Understandably, it may be difficult at this time in the calendar year to contact the parents and guardians in your district. Moreover, some parents and guardians may not have Internet access. To that end, we have partnered with the Massachusetts Parent Information & Resource Center (PIRC), a U.S. Department of Education-funded organization, to provide your district with technical assistance, if desired. They can assist you in formulating engagement and outreach strategies to increase the survey response rate in your district. If you wish to obtain assistance from the Massachusetts PIRC, please contact them directly at (617) 399-8342 or via email at masspirc@fcsn.org.

Language Support

The online version survey is currently available in four languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Haitian Creole. Below please find downloadable hardcopies in these and other languages. If your district serves a population speaking a language other than those listed for whom a native language survey would be helpful, please contact us and we will do our best to make additional languages available.

Submitting Surveys to the Department

We hope that the majority of parents and guardians will be able to complete the online survey at home, in the library, in your district's parent information center, or in another convenient location with internet access. If there are parents and guardians in your district who prefer a hardcopy version of the survey, we can make available a limited number of stamped, self-addressed envelopes for parents and guardians to mail their responses directly back to us. Please contact us to discuss this option.

Thank you in advance for your participation in this pilot, and please feel free to distribute this memo, as needed, to other personnel in your district who have regular contact with parents and guardians. If you have any questions or need technical assistance, please contact us at sesproviders@doe.mass.edu.
