Changes in Extended Evaluation

To:Special Education Directors
From:Marcia Mittnacht, State Director of Special Education
Date:September 26, 2000

stopline

The Board of Education today authorized certain changes to the state special education regulations. These changes limit the use of an Extended Evaluation to circumstances where a student has first been found eligible for special education. In other words, school districts may only recommend Extended Evaluation to parents when the Team has found a student eligible for special education and has found the evaluation information insufficient to develop an IEP, in whole or in part.

State special education regulations at 603 CMR 28.05(2)(b) detail the requirements related to the use of extended evaluations.

The Extended Evaluation Form, EE 1- EE 2 [ PDF || MS WORD ] has been revised to conform with regulatory requirements now in effect. Please download and disseminate the revised form for immediate use. Thank you.
