The applications for the Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship are sent to the guidance departments of all public and private high schools in Massachusetts in January. The applications are not sent directly to students because the schools must nominate the students.
Eligible Student: A high school senior who is a resident of Massachusetts for at least one year prior to the opening day of the academic year he/she will enter college; who will graduate from high school or have the recognized equivalent of a high school diploma; who has applied or been accepted at an accredited institution of higher education; and who is a U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident. A student attending a military academy is ineligible to receive a Byrd scholarship.
The application is based on the following:
- Academic Standing GPA must be between 3.5 and 4.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) OR average between 87% and 100% OR class rank in the top 5%
- School Activities and Leadership Positions
- Community Service
- Paid Employment
- Special Recognition, Awards and Honors
