Math Support Specialists Network Description

The Math Support Specialists (MSS) network is a web of urban district math leader-practitioners (e.g., coaches, professional development providers, assessment specialists) who meet on a regular basis with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education math team for consultation, training and resource sharing. The network was established through two years of funding from the Comprehensive School Reform math initiative, and currently continues with voluntary participation of most urban districts. A noteworthy project of the network has been development of Characteristics of a Standards-Based Mathematics Classroom, a document that describes expectations for a high functioning mathematics teaching and learning environment. The network also addresses topics such as curriculum, assessment, data, mathematics coaching, and student interventions. For more information, please contact David Parker at dparker@doe.mass.edu or (781) 338-3466.

The Math Support Specialist Network convenes for 4-5 full-day meetings per year.
