The Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

Every Student Succeeds Act — Stakeholder Outreach

To:
Members of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

Changes in federal law have provided states the opportunity to reconsider the design of their systems for school and district accountability and assistance. Massachusetts is using calendar year 2016 to plan for potential changes in preparation for implementation at the start of the 2017-18 school year. Attached is a two-page summary of our stakeholder outreach plans and the organizations we have met with so far. The Board's Accountability and Assistance Advisory Council has devoted time at its last three meetings to discussing this issue in depth.

We will bring this topic to the Board for discussion in the fall. At that point, we expect to have developed specific options in response to the feedback we have heard. We look forward to your input as we further refine those proposals in preparation for submitting our state plan to the U.S. Department of Education early in 2017.
