Food System Education

What if all students had the opportunity to learn where their food comes from and how it connects subjects like science, health, social studies, and art? Food system education helps students discover the journey of food from farm to plate. It builds real world skills that help students make informed decisions about food and understand the impact of these choices on their health, environment, neighborhoods, and economy. Food system education also lets students explore new careers such as those in agriculture and nutrition. With support from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, schools and districts across Massachusetts are growing programs centered on food literacy, connecting classrooms to cafeterias and communities, and inspiring the next generation of mindful eaters and food system leaders.
