Domain - Vector and Matrix Quantities

Cluster - Perform operations on matrices and use matrices in applications.

[PC.N-VM.C.10] - (+) Understand that the zero and identity matrices play a role in matrix addition and multiplication similar to the role of 0 and 1 in the real numbers. The determinant of a square matrix is nonzero if and only if the matrix has a multiplicative inverse.

Resources:

  • Matrix (pl. matrices)
A rectangular array of numbers or variables.
  • Multiplicitive inverses
Two numbers whose product is 1 are multiplicative inverses of one another. Example: 3∕4 and 4∕3 are multiplicative inverses of one another because 3∕4 x 4∕3 = 4∕3 x 3∕4 = 1.
  • Real number
A number from the set of numbers consisting of all rational and all irrational numbers.
