DESE VISTA Survey Project, 2018-2019

Welcome to the Views of Instruction, State Standards, Teaching, and Assessment (VISTA) Survey Project page.

Introduction

VISTA is an annual survey sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Educators were asked to share their views on the implementation of five statewide initiatives:

  • Educator effectiveness (hiring, developing, evaluating, and retaining effective educators),
  • State curriculum frameworks,
  • Social and emotional learning, health and safety, and
  • DESE overall supports.

The 2018-2019 VISTA surveys were administered to all superintendents and principals. 165 or 41% of superintendents provided feedback, with 721 or 40% of principals participating in their survey. Westat provided survey design, data collection, analyses and data reporting for the 2018-2019 VISTA survey projects.
