Adult Career Pathways

Purpose:The purpose of the Adult Career Pathways grant program is to support eligible adult students' career-related goals, and strengthen their preparation for employment opportunities and/or occupationally specific education and training programs.
Priorities: The priority is to support ABE/ESOL instruction that integrates the priority or priorities identified by the regional workforce systems to assist students in acquiring the academic skills and career information necessary to gain access to a career pathway.

The Department awards this funding through collaboration with its regional workforce partners. The funding priorities were determined in consultation with regional workforce partners and are specific to each region based on current labor market needs.

Eligibility:FY 18 is the final continuation year grant. All recipients awarded in the FY2013 Open and Competitive process are eligible to apply.

Fund Use:Funds must be used for ABE instructional services, including adult basic education/literacy, pre-adult secondary education, adult secondary education, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), pre-literacy ESOL, and Adult/External Diploma classes that are designed in accordance with the Massachusetts Guidelines for Effective Adult Career Pathways, Program Self Evaluation and Monitoring Tool, and the ABE Rates System.

Submission Instructions: Grantees must use the online grants information system; Paper submissions will no longer be accepted.

Submit all required grant materials through the EdGrants website.

In EdGrants, applicants are required to create and name the project. Please use the following naming convention for your "Applicant Project Name" in EdGrants:

FY18 (Insert fund code and full legal name of program)
      (no acronyms, please)

All required forms should be uploaded in the Attachments List formlet of the Application Submission. This includes a signed / scanned PDF of Part I / Coversheet with CEO/Superintendent/Executive Director signature.

Please note: The program must determine who to add as users of EdGrants in order to submit grant application as well as for payment request information. Please review the EdGrants: User Security Controls to make informed decisions regarding assigning your EdGrants level users.

Note to the Workforce Partner: Once the workforce partner has approved Adult Career Pathways budgets, copies of the following must be submitted to the Program Specialist:
  • Contracts (MOAs) with local workforce development partner, and

  • Responses to narrative Part III Required Program Information.
